Big Sky Release
OGDEN, Utah – After recording the fifth hat trick in program history in a 4-0 Hornet win against Southern Utah on Sunday, Sacramento State senior forward Gabriela Trenton has been named Co-Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week. She shares the weekly honor with Northern Colorado senior Danielle Birdsall.
Trenton recorded the first Hornet hat trick since Lisa Wrightsman had three goals against Hawaii in 2001. The three goals also tied for the second most scores in a game in program history while Trenton also equaled the third most points in a match. The hat trick was just the second in the Big Sky this season.
Trenton, who was one of five Hornet seniors honored before the match, entered the game without a goal in her career but had tallies in the 16th, 62nd, and 81st minutes of the match on Sunday for the first three goals of her career. All four of Trenton’s shots in the match were on goal as she recorded three scores in 67 minutes played.
Trenton is the third Hornet to earn Big Sky Player of the Week honors this season following sophomore forward Alyssa Anderson and junior goalkeeper Kimberly Mata. She now has eight points this season and has placed seven of her 10 shot attempts on goal while playing in all-15 Sacramento State matches.
